If you are a fan of Fiji water then you have good taste. Fiji water is undoubtedly the best water that I have tasted myself. Fiji Water achieved much of its success by clever product placement in US television dramas including Ally McBeal, Friends, The Sopranos, Boston Public and West Wing and many other Hollywood movies.

Fiji Water In Hollywood

This however is not the Fiji water that I want to talk about. I want to talk about the real deal, Fiji Water that actually comes from our taps, water that is filtered through municipal sanitation plants and supplied to 60% of households in the main island of Viti Levu. For locals here in Fiji we don’t get the same pure tasting “Fiji Water” that most Hollywood Stars are used too. In fact there are still many areas in Fiji that are still without good clean running water. Schools and villages are the most affected from this with school children feeling the brunt of it.

Household filters and tanks are booming products here because not every one can afford their own daily supply of bottled “Fiji Water”. In my household alone we have 3 water purifiers, at times dirt can be seen by the naked eye and this is on a normal day. We are in our cyclone season now and an expected 11 cyclones are going to hit us between the months of November to April. We have just experienced our first already and water shortages and polluted water were a major pain to many families.

It’s crazy to think how we seem to meet the demand as the number one supplier of bottled water to the world yet still have water shortages here. Maybe if a lot more money from the “Fiji Water” private sector was poured into upgrading the real “Fiji Water” supply systems then we might be better off.
